Project CONNECT Recommended System Requirements

Project CONNECT works best for these hardware and software combinations and will yield better access speed and interactivity.

  1. Platform
    • Operating Systems: Windows 98, Macintosh 0S 9 and above
    • Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or greater, java script enabled, cookies enabled, popups allowed. Netscape 6.1/Mozilla 1.0 or greater also supported.
    • Plugins: Quicktime 5 and above for audio and video. Adobe Acrobat (teachers only) for teachers guide.
  2. Hardware
    • CPU and chipsets: PC/Pentium 3, Macs-G; (the faster the processor the better.)
    • 128 MB RAM
    • 15" or larger monitor
    • Faster connection than 56.6 Kbps modem (DSL, cable modem or T1)
    • soundcard
    • speakers or headphones

Notes:

When a new instance of a new browser window is called for from a link, a smaller window should appear. The size is variable and probably depends on the local machine's last viewed size of the browser window.

The QuickTime player should be installed both as a plug in and as an independent application. The CONNECT site defaults to the application so that the media windows are placed at the top left of the screen with only once instance of the media player open and the control buttons are consistent. If the browser overrides this default, multiple windows of the media player will appear. These should be closed as the user moves along.

Popups are integral to the site. If you have a popup blocker activated, you will need to set it so that popups are allowed on the CONNECT site.

Project CONNECT Minimum System Requirements

These requirements allow a functional site but a less than ideal interaction with the system.

  1. Platform
    • Operating System: Windows 95 or above, OR Macintosh 8 or above, OR Linux.
    • Browser: Explorer 4.0 or Netscape version 4.72 or greater; java script enabled, cookies enabled, popups allowed.
    • Plug ins: Quicktime 3 and above for audio and video. Adobe Acrobat (teachers only) for teachers guide.
  2. Hardware
    • CPU and chipsets: 486 or 68040 (for Macs) processor
    • 32 MB RAM
    • 15" or larger monitor
    • 56.6 Kbps modem
    • soundcard
    • speakers or headphones

Unsupported browser versions:

Internet Explorer or Netscape versions lower than 4.

AOL browsers (use AOL for dialup, and then insert URL on supported browser).
